About

Personal data has become one of the most valuable assets in today's world. Social media giants and global tech companies that handle personal information can sell it for millions of dollars to advertisers or third parties without even consulting the individuals whose information is being sold. More and more people begin to understand the risks posed when their personal information is being used, sold, manipulated, or stored. As individuals and customers we are becoming more protective of our personal data and want to know how it is being handled. A company can either gain the trust of new customers or lose much of its business depending on how it treats its customers' personal information. We already see the rise and fall of communication apps based solely on how these companies handle their users' personal data.

Governments with outdated understanding of technology and social media have now been called in to set up certain limits and create guidelines on how to protect personal data without impeding on businesses and innovation. Some have done better than others and the result are laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the California Privacy Rights Acts (CPRA), just to name a few.

One thing, however, is certain. We have already reached the point where data privacy has become deeply interwoven into the fabric of our society as an overarching issue in business, politics, and culture. That's why it is imperative for companies, no matter their size, to make sure that the personal data of their clients, customers, and employees is protected at all times.

The goal of Data Privacy Global (DPG) is to promote a culture of data protection and information privacy.
